The Reality of the TOEFL Test Empty The Reality of the TOEFL Test

Post  Mr Nadi Sat Dec 19, 2009 12:16 pm

If we ask a specialist about the meaning of the word TOEFL, he will answer without hesitation that it means " Test of English as a Foreign Language ". But in my point of view I believe that the TOEFL test is a kind of American domination over the world, especially the Arab world. It is a cultural and intellectual invasion of the people in the developing countries. I think also that it is a result of what is called psychological defeat .

You may say that, "the TOEFL is just a test for measuring efficiency of using the four skills of the English language." That's true if this situation concerns only the users of the English language, specialists, university professors who work in the field of English Language Literature or those who want to travel or live in the native English countries. But The big problem is that non-specialists or students who are not concerned of studying English at all, are obliged to pass the TOEFL Test.

I do not deny that English is an international language and most sciences and knowledge are written in English, but why does the student who wants to get the master degree in Islamic studies have to pass the TOEFL test?

Professors in Arab universities impose the TOEFL test as a condition for graduation for those who are wishing to obtain a master's degree in Arabic literature or any other topic that has no relationship to the English language. At the same time they never thought of making a similar Arabic test for those who teach or learn Arabic in the Arab world.

They have the right to impose the TOEFL on those who enter their countries or join their universities or want to migrate to their countries, but they do not have the right to impose it on our countries or imposed it on us if there isn't an urgent need to do so.

Finally, I wish that there will be an Arabic test with world specifications to be imposed on those who want to live, work or come to Muslim countries. And also to be imposed on the Arab graduates themselves .

There are too many teachers of English who are originally Arabs in addition to many teachers of Arabic who are not fluent in reading the Holy Koran
